Drawski Klub Filmowy presents François Ozon’s “The Stranger,” a new adaptation of Albert Camus’s 20th-century novel. The film was screened in the Main Competition at the Venice Film Festival and explores the search for meaning in a world that has lost it.
The protagonist is Meursault, a young clerk whose routine is not disrupted even by his mother’s death. That changes one scorching day when a tragic incident involving him occurs on a beach.
The main roles are played by Benjamin Voisin (“Lost Illusions,” “Summer ‘85”), Rebecca Marder (“My Crime”), and Pierre Lottin (“High and Low Notes”), a Césars award winner. Ozon also directed “Double Lover” and “8 Women.” The film has sparse dialogue and black-and-white cinematography.
