“Rose”

The Drawsko Pomorskie Film Club will screen “Rose,” directed by Markus Schleinzer, in the cinema hall in Drawsko Pomorskie. Based on true events, the film tells the story of a person who was born female but wore men's clothing and deceived the authorities and the local community under a false name. Set in 17th-century Germany, the story follows a war-scarred soldier who arrives at a remote village, claiming to be the heir to an abandoned farm. Thanks to his documents and hard work, he earns the residents' trust and submits to the rules of the Protestant community, but he must hide his true identity. The title role is played by Sandra Hüller, known for “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Zone of Interest,” and “Toni Erdmann.” She won the Silver Bear for this performance at the latest Berlinale. The film explores the price of freedom and of living on one's own terms, and its faithful recreation of the old village and its austere cinematography build a growing sense of danger.
