In his fourth solo show, “Time Machine,” Rafał Rutkowski travels through time, pitting the present against the past. He asks whether things were better in the old days, whether artificial intelligence is humanity's hope, how technology has changed us, and whether we are smarter than our ancestors.
He also looks back on his childhood in communist Poland (PRL) and its absurdities: the Fiat 126p, queues for mustard, meat ration coupons, and parties under martial law. He recounts his first trip “to the West” and long-distance flirting with his Swedish wife, the aerobatic stunts he used to impress a girl, and contraception in Belarus.
