The oldest urban park in Stargard, on former ramparts beside the medieval walls and towers, with Słowicza Avenue and old trees.
The oldest and largest area of urban greenery in Stargard. It runs round the Old Town from the north and west, and it was created on the site of the former earth ramparts, developed in the 18th century.
When the town ceased to be a fortress, the ramparts and moats lost their importance. The Gallows Bastion and most of the ramparts were lowered, and the area was planted with trees. Only St John's Bastion has kept its original size. In 1995-2000 the park was revitalised. Słowicza Avenue, laid out on the former earth rampart, runs along its whole length. The park borders Castle Park and Piast Park.
The boundary of the park follows the outline of the defensive walls, so a walk leads past medieval structures. In the park or right next to it stand a fragment of the walls, the Red Sea Tower, the Pyrzyce Gate and the Orthodox Church of Sts Peter and Paul. Nearby there is also a water tower.
The most numerous are Norway maples, sycamores, oaks, beeches and lime trees, and there are about 8 thousand shrubs. The largest girths belong to a white poplar (498 cm), a common beech (447 cm) and two pedunculate oaks (346 and 315 cm).
