Water Tower in Stargard

Hetmana Stefana Czarnieckiego, Stargard
About Water Tower in Stargard

Neo-Romanesque water tower of 1896-1897, 65 m high, in Bolesław the Brave Park in Stargard.

The water tower in Stargard stands in Bolesław the Brave Park, outside the medieval town walls. It was built in 1896-1897, is 65 metres high and looks like a Neo-Romanesque tower with brick ornamentation.

Form and decoration

The base of the tower is an octagon that narrows towards the top and turns into a cylinder. The widest part is the one with the tank, with a capacity of 500 m³, topped with blind arcades and battlements. The tower is covered with an octagonal pyramid.

  • The chequerboard-pattern decoration of the elevation echoes the nearby Red Sea Tower.
  • The portal on the west side is crowned by two slanting coat-of-arms shields and a six-part rosette.
  • The pointed-arch windows have glazed reveals.

Renovation of the tower

A major renovation began in March 2007. The elevation was cleaned and its gaps filled, the helmet was repaired and painted green, and a new spire was made, because the previous one had been destroyed in a gale in 2001. The tower is listed in the heritage register.
