A historic stone filial church in Górki, saved after the war and blessed again in 1961.
The Church of Our Lady of Częstochowa in Górki is a single-nave building of dressed stone, one of the oldest churches in Kamień Pomorski municipality. It is a filial church and a monument entered in the heritage register.
Wikipedia gives the 13th century and mentions a priest at this church in 1369, while the heritage register dates the building to the second half of the 15th century. At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries a tower was added, renovated in 1922 and pulled down after the Second World War.
The gaps between the stone blocks were filled with brick in modern times. The interior walls are plastered, covered at the bottom with wooden panelling, and the ceiling is wooden and flat. Above the entrance is a small gallery. The altar is a table with the image of a lamb, and beside it stand a lectern with a dove representing the Holy Spirit and a painting of Our Lady of Częstochowa. In the wall is hidden a tabernacle with the Last Supper.
Until 1594 the church was Catholic, then Evangelical. After the war it served briefly as a warehouse, then stood dilapidated. It was saved by Father Roman Kostynowicz, and on 17 December 1961 the building was blessed again. Among the nearest churches in the area, one can visit the Church of John Paul II in Śniatowo.
