Radziszewo
About Church of Our Lady Queen of Poland in Radziszewo

A 19th-century brick church in Radziszewo, formerly Protestant, with stained glass and a terraced cemetery.

The church in Radziszewo stands on a small rise, east of the main road through the village. It was built in the 19th century as a Protestant church, and today it is a Roman Catholic parish church and a monument entered in the register.

The building

It is a brick church on a rectangular plan, with a gable roof and a semicircular apse to the east. In the plinth fragments of the former Gothic wall of stone and brick have survived. The descriptions differ as to the style: the Wikipedia entry speaks of Neo-Gothic, and the heritage register of Neo-Romanesque, and dates the building to the 4th quarter of the 19th century. The porch was added in 1958, the sacristy in 1960. The grounds around are occupied by the former cemetery, laid out in terraces and surrounded by a double stone wall. A single-flight staircase leads to the church.

Interior

Inside, 19th-century pews and a choir gallery have survived, and the chancel is separated from the nave by a chancel arch with sculptures. The windows have stained glass designed by Maria Powalisz-Bardońska. After the Second World War the church at first stood unused, and it was consecrated as Catholic in 1956.
