About Church of St John the Baptist in Lubiesz

Filial church in Lubiesz, burnt down in 1825 and consecrated again in 1829, entered in the heritage register in 1954.

The filial church in Lubiesz, a village in Tuczno municipality in Wałcz County, today bears the dedication to St John the Baptist. The heritage register lists it as the Church of St Catherine, now dedicated to St John the Baptist, and the same dedication is given by the Wikipedia entry on the village and by the website of the Koszalin-Kołobrzeg diocese.

Construction and dating

According to the Wikipedia entry, the first church was built in the mid-14th century and burnt down in 1825, and the present church was consecrated in 1829. The entry describes it as Neo-Romanesque, of masonry and half-timbering, with a tower from 1960. The heritage register (zabytek.pl) dates the building to the 17th century and gives stone as the material, which gives a different age and a different construction from Wikipedia. The church was entered in the register in 1954, and by the church lies a churchyard cemetery from the 18th century, also a monument.
