Church in Polanów rebuilt in 1741 after a fire, with Neo-Gothic elements, an altar of 1897 and the coat of arms of General Wrangel in the choir.
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Polanów is a former Protestant church, today a parish church. It owes its present form to the rebuilding after the fire of 1736 and to rebuildings in the 19th century.
The first mention of the church dates from 1613. In 1736 it burned down together with several dozen buildings, and the rebuilding took five years. In 1741 it again served Protestants, equipped with a new organ and pulpit, with a clock on the tower. Rebuildings in 1858 and 1881 introduced Neo-Gothic elements. After wartime damage the church was consecrated as a Catholic church on 15 August 1946.
It is a single-nave building with a transept and an irregular polygonal chancel, and the tower at the west is joined to the nave. The interior is covered with rib-and-cross vaults. The altar of 1897 was funded by a resident of the town, Carl Corduan. In the windows of the chancel the stained glass symbolises the seven sacraments. The painting on the high altar changes: during Lent Ecce Homo hangs there, and in the other seasons the painting of the patron, Our Lady of the Assumption. In the choir hangs the coat of arms of General Friedrich Wrangel, to whom the town awarded the title of honorary citizen in 1864.
