Church of the Holy Spirit in Czarnowo

6, Czarnowo
About Church of the Holy Spirit in Czarnowo

A stone filial church of 1601, rebuilt after the Thirty Years' War, with a pulpit of 1673 and a stone wall around the grounds.

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Czarnowo was built of stone in 1601. Burnt down during the Thirty Years' War, it was rebuilt in 1647. In 1750 it was rebuilt and plastered, as commemorated by the date on the south façade. The heritage register describes the style as Baroque.

Architecture

The church has the plan of an elongated rectangle, and the windows have round arches. At about that time a four-sided tower with a Baroque spire with a lantern was added on the west side. The church grounds are surrounded by a stone wall.

Interior

The ceiling is flat, of beams, and above the entrance is a wooden gallery. In the undivided chancel stands an 18th-century altar with a painting of the Crucifixion, and by the wall a wooden pulpit of 1673 with painted panels. 19th-century pews have survived. The original organ and the bell from the tower were lost. After the war, in 1946, the church was blessed as a Catholic one. Close by, about 3 km away, stands the church in Łozice.
