A filial church of granite ashlar from the 13th-14th century, with a massive tower from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries and a Baroque altar from the 18th century.
The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus in Górnowo was built of granite ashlar in the Middle Ages, and its most characteristic element is the massive tower with crenellation. The church is a filial church of the parish of Our Lady Help of Christians in Banie.
The church stands on a rectangular plan. On the west side rises a square stone tower with crenellation, added at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, which in its upper part changes into a brick octagon covered with a conical helm with a cross. The gable of the east wall is decorated with blind arcading. At the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries the church was thoroughly rebuilt, and the outer walls are plastered. In the south wall a trace of a walled-up medieval portal is visible. The grounds around are surrounded by a former cemetery enclosed by a stone wall.
The interior is covered by a wooden beamed ceiling, and on the west wall there is a choir gallery. In the chancel a Baroque altar from the 18th century has survived, originally a pulpit altar, with openwork decoration and two columns supporting a canopy. During conservation work in 2015 polychrome ceiling boards from the third quarter of the 16th century were discovered, secondarily placed in the 18th century in the roof truss. According to the Wikipedia entry this is the oldest polychrome ceiling discovered so far in West Pomerania.
The church was blessed as a Catholic church on 14 July 1946. This was done by Father Michał Chrąchol SDB.
The age of the building is given differently: the heritage register gives the mid-13th century, Wikipedia the 14th century. It is certain that the tower is younger than the nave and dates from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries.
