A Gothic filial church from the 15th century in Krzemienna, with a wooden tower clad in boards.
The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Krzemienna is a Gothic church from the 15th century with a wooden tower, which the Wikipedia entry calls the oldest wooden structure in Pomerania. It is a filial church of the parish of St Clare in Dobra.
The church was built in the 15th century on a rectangular plan. The brick gable of the east wall is decorated with blind niches, and the nave has a gabled roof. On the west side a wooden tower clad in boards, covered with an octagonal spire, adjoins it. According to Wikipedia it is the oldest wooden structure in Pomerania, but this is a claim from a single source. In the 18th century the church was rebuilt: the windows and the portal in the south wall were rebuilt.
Inside, elements of 19th-century furnishings have survived: the choir balustrade, pews and pulpit. The chancel, closed by a straight wall, is lit by two windows. It was blessed as a Catholic church on 9 September 1945.
It is about five kilometres from here to Dobra: the Dobra Land Museum and the castle in Dobra.
