Jewish Cemetery in Maszewo

Stargardzka, Maszewo
About Jewish Cemetery in Maszewo

Jewish cemetery of 1812-1933 on Stargardzka Street, entered in the heritage register in 2018.

The Jewish cemetery in Maszewo was established after 1812 on what is today Stargardzka Street. The last burial took place here in 1933. The site is listed in the heritage register, and its history includes destruction in 1938 and earthworks in 2017.

History of the necropolis

On the night of 9 to 10 November 1938 the cemetery was devastated by the town's German residents. In 2015, despite bushes and uncut grass, a brick wall, fragments of gravestones and three lying slabs with inscriptions in German were still visible.

The works of 2017

On 28 August 2017 the cemetery grounds were levelled with an excavator. The works were stopped by the Voivodeship Conservator of Monuments, and the police secured the bones that had been unearthed. In 2018 the cemetery was entered in the heritage register (no. A-1721).
