A Jewish cemetery founded in the 18th century on the former Gallows Hill, destroyed in 1938, with surviving matzevot at the municipal cemetery and in a museum.
The Jewish cemetery in Stargard was founded, according to the entry on the cemetery, in the second half of the 18th century on a hill that was called Kalkenberg in German, that is, Gallows Hill. It covered about half a hectare (100 by 50 metres), and a chapel stood beside it. The heritage register dates the cemetery to the end of the 17th century, so the dating differs.
The cemetery was destroyed during Kristallnacht in 1938, as was the synagogue that stood by the Granary. The number of people buried there and their names are not documented here.
Individual surviving matzevot are at the Old Municipal Cemetery and in the Archaeological and Historical Museum in Stargard. In 2005 the town authorities and the Jewish community signed a letter of intent on commemorating the Jews of Stargard. The present state of the site of the former cemetery and its signage must be checked on the spot.
