A coastal lake north-east of Darłowo, covering about 787-790 ha, a breeding ground for birds and a place for windsurfing.
Kopań is a coastal lake on the Koszalin Coast, north-east of Darłowo. It covers about 787-790 ha and is shallow, with an average depth of 1.9 m. A wooded spit separates it from the sea.
The water surface lies 0.1 m above sea level, and the greatest depth is 3.9 m. The figures for the area vary, from 786.5 to 789.7 ha. A channel, usually dry, connects the lake with the sea. During storms the sea flows through it into the lake, which is why the water is slightly brackish.
The lake is rich in fish and serves as a breeding ground and refuge for many bird species. Wikipedia describes it as a good place for windsurfing. Together with the spit that separates it from the sea, it was planned to be covered by protection as a Natura 2000 area.
The nearest historic sites are in Darłowo, about 7 km from the lake. They include the Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes and the Darłowo Lighthouse.
