Bird reserve around a shallow lake near Niechorze, with a circular trail of 9.3 km and three piers.
Lake Liwia Łuża is a shallow, lagoon-type lake just behind the dunes of Niechorze and also a nature reserve with an area of 239.74 ha, established in 1959. It lies 0.5 to 1 km from the Baltic shore, in Rewal municipality.
The reserve protects the ecosystem of a shallow lake fed periodically by sea water, together with rare salt-tolerant plants and wetland birds. Strict protection covers 162.52 ha of water with reed "islands" of sea club-rush, alder carrs and common reed.
It is a refuge for birds. In the past great crested grebes, mute swans and greylag geese nested here, and on migration bean geese and white-fronted geese stop here. Greylag geese moult on the lake. A colony of black-headed gulls has moved to nearby Lake Konarzewo.
A circular Liwia Łuża Trail, 9.3 km long, runs around the reserve. It starts and ends in Niechorze, where it joins the coastal E-9 trail. There are three piers on the lake, two on the Niechorze side and one on the Skalno side. Along the way you can combine the walk with a visit to the Sea Fishing Museum in Niechorze or a climb up the Niechorze Lighthouse.
