About Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Szczecinek

Orthodox church on Szkolna Street in the building of a former synagogue of 1824, a monument undecorated on the outside, with a modern iconostasis.

The Church of the Holy Trinity at Szkolna 6 in Szczecinek is an Orthodox parish church housed in the building of a former synagogue of 1824. It belongs to the Koszalin deanery of the Diocese of Wrocław-Szczecin of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church and is entered in the heritage register.

The former synagogue

The building was put up in 1824. It survived the war thanks to its peripheral location and unassuming appearance, and in 1952 it was adapted for the Orthodox liturgy. Wikipedia also mentions another source, according to which it was a former Protestant church, with the same date of construction; the heritage register gives its original function as a synagogue. The history of the Jews of Szczecinek is recalled by the Jewish cemetery.

What it looks like

It is a masonry brick building covered with tiles, set with its side to the street. The façade is without decoration, the windows are semicircular, and the entrance leads in from the side. Inside stands a modern iconostasis. The church stands right next to the Regional Museum.
