A forest reserve in Beech Forest, one of the first mycological reserves in Poland, crossed by a green trail.
The Osetno nature reserve lies in Stare Czarnowo municipality, in the eastern part of Beech Forest, about 3 km north of Stare Czarnowo and 2.5 km west of Kołbacz. It is located within Szczecin Landscape Park “Puszcza Bukowa”. It was established by a regulation of the voivode of 14 November 2008 and covers 112.22 ha.
It is a forest reserve in which the most important aim of protection is cap fungi. Very rare species, among them żylak kolczasty and gąska czarnołuska, inhabit the old beech wood with a large amount of decaying timber. Osetno is regarded as one of the first mycological reserves in Poland. The area is also a spring area and a refuge of rare birds such as the white-tailed eagle, the red kite and the red-breasted flycatcher.
The marked green Bolesław Czwójdziński Trail leads through the reserve. We keep to the trail, because this is a nature reserve under active protection. In the vicinity lies the Cistercian Abbey in Kołbacz, and in Beech Forest also the Buczynowe Wąwozy reserve.
