Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Myślibórz

Bohaterów Warszawy 78, Myślibórz
About Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Myślibórz

Neo-Gothic brick church from 1905-1907, a sanctuary since 1993, with relics of St Faustina Kowalska.

The Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Myślibórz is a neo-Gothic brick church dedicated to the Holy Cross, built in 1905-1907 by Polish workers who were employed in these lands. The church was Catholic from the start.

The building

The church has a stepped eastern gable and a western gable decorated with blind windows. Inside are an organ gallery and a net vault in the nave. In the chancel the original neo-Gothic furnishings have survived: a wooden altar and one stained-glass window. In 1992 a stylistically matching porch was added, which increased the floor area of the church by about 30 per cent.

Sanctuary and convent

On 1 August 1993 Archbishop Marian Przykucki brought in the relics of St Faustina Kowalska and established the church as the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy. Next to the sanctuary stands a convent, the mother house of the Congregation of the Sisters of Jesus Merciful, who have lived in Myślibórz since 27 July 1947. The erection decree of the sanctuary states that the church and convent indicated in the vision of St Faustina described in her “Diary” are to be a place of special veneration of Divine Mercy.

Nearby stand the Collegiate Church of St John the Baptist and the town hall, and Lake Myślibórz is less than three kilometres away.
