A Szczecin monument in the form of a bench with a bronze sculpture of a German artist and founder of aid for poor girls, financed from the civic budget.
The Sophie Caroline Auguste Tilebein Bench is a monument in the form of a bronze sculpture, standing in Szczecin at the junction of Robotnicza and Dębogórska streets, at the edge of a park. It shows the German artist seated on a bench, life-size and in period dress.
The monument commemorates a German artist and founder of the Tilebein Stiftung foundation, whose aim was to help poor girls. The sculpture shows both threads: in one hand Sophie Tilebein holds the musical score of a work by Carl Loewe, which was dedicated to her and which she supported, and in the other the deed establishing the foundation.
The idea for the bench came from Arkadiusz Lisiński, and the money for it came from the Szczecin Civic Budget: the award of funds was announced on 22 December 2021. The city councillors agreed to the erection of the monument in a resolution of 5 September 2023. The sculpture was cast in bronze by the firm ART-ODLEW to a design by Marian Molenda, and the work was completed in December 2023.
