St Martin's Church in Kołobrzeg, created in 2001-2004 in a rebuilt garrison club on the site of the demolished Protestant St Nicholas' Church.
St Martin's Church on Portowa Street in Kołobrzeg is a modern church adapted from the building of a former garrison club. Before the war the Protestant St Nicholas' Church stood on its site, and the history of both buildings tells of the changes in the town after 1945.
The Protestant St Nicholas' Church was partly destroyed in 1945 and survived as a permanent ruin until the 1960s. After its demolition a modernist garrison club building was put up on the site. From the 1980s the building slowly deteriorated, and was used, among other things, as a canteen and a dance hall for holidaymakers from the Spa District.
In 2001-2004 the building was rebuilt and adapted to the needs of the Roman Catholic parish of St Martin. The former club hall became the nave of the church, and the service areas the presbytery.
It is about seven hundred metres from here to the pier in Kołobrzeg, and about six hundred to the lighthouse.
