About Old Jewish Cemetery in Kołobrzeg

The site of a Jewish cemetery from 1812 in Kołobrzeg, today a lapidarium with matzevot and a monument to the victims of the Holocaust.

The Old Jewish Cemetery in Kołobrzeg was established in 1812 at the junction of what are now Zdrojowa and Mickiewicza streets. The cemetery was destroyed by the German National Socialists in 1938. Today the site holds a lapidarium and a monument to the victims of the Holocaust.

Lapidarium and monument

In 2000 a lapidarium was laid out on the site of the former cemetery: the matzevot that had been found were arranged in the shape of a Star of David. A monument in memory of the victims of the Holocaust was also unveiled there. The matzevot therefore do not stand in the original places of burial but have been arranged as a form of commemoration.
