A historic spa park in Kołobrzeg founded in 1853, with the Monument to Poland's Wedding to the Sea, a concert shell and a swamp cypress.
A historic landscape park in the Spa District of Kołobrzeg, between the town's streets and Nadmorska Avenue. It serves as a spa park and also protects the buildings from the effects of storms and hurricane-force winds.
The dune landscape of this part of the town was turned into a park on the initiative of supporters of the seaside resort's development. It was officially founded in 1853, on the basis of plantings carried out from 1809, but the consent of the commandant of Kołobrzeg Fortress was obtained only in 1863. The fortress hindered the whole undertaking. In 1884 construction began on the Dune Promenade, today's Nadmorska Avenue. You can read more about the town's former fortifications in the description of Kołobrzeg Fortress.
The heritage register distinguishes two parks. The first, by the Monument to Poland's Wedding to the Sea, covers 5.9 ha and lies between Obrońców Westerplatte, Mickiewicza and Jan Szymański Boulevard. The second is the seaside (spa) park of 19.3 ha, between Rodziewiczówny and Sikorskiego streets and Nadmorska Avenue. The continuity of the two is broken by the Bałtyk sanatorium complex, built where the Strandschloß hotel (Beach Castle), which served as the spa house, stood in 1899-1945. At the level of Chopina Street the Perła Bałtyku sanatorium of 1980 takes up half the width of the park.
The trees are mainly native deciduous species with an admixture of exotic ones. By the Stone Redoubt stands a swamp cypress with a girth of 227 cm, declared a natural monument in 1992. The park contains, among other things, the Monument to Poland's Wedding to the Sea, a concert shell, tennis courts, an exercise path and a café.
