Foundation and appearance

According to the Wikipedia entry on the village, the estate in Chełm Dolny was bought in 1883 by General Hermann von Tresckow, adjutant to Emperor Wilhelm I. He laid out a manor park and built a family funeral chapel. The chapel has a gable roof, and above the portal a cross within a circle is laid out in brick. The entry on the village also says that after 1945 the chapel served as a church.

The family cemetery

The chapel is surrounded by the cemetery of the von Tresckow family. In 1944 General Henning von Tresckow was buried here, one of the conspirators in the attempt on Hitler at the Wolf's Lair, brother of the then owner of the estate. A month later his body was exhumed by the Gestapo and then burned in the crematorium of Sachsenhausen camp. On the wall of the nearby church hangs a plaque with the names of family members buried in the local cemetery.
