Floristic reserve in the Beech Forest in Szczecin, protecting regenerating common yew.
The Zdroje nature reserve is a floristic reserve of 2.12 ha in Szczecin, within Zdroje Forest Park, in the north-western part of the Szczecin Landscape Park “Puszcza Bukowa”. It protects a site of regenerating common yew at the edge of its geographical range.
The aim of protection is to preserve the site of the common yew Taxus baccata within its range. The reserve was established by an order of the Minister of Forestry and the Timber Industry of 5 November 1959. It lies within the Natura 2000 area “Beech Hills” (Wzgórza Bukowe), and since 2016, under the protection plan, it has been under active protection.
The reserve was created on the site of the former Toepfer Park, laid out by the owner of the nearby chalk mine, by Radosna Street.
The reserve lies about 0.6 km south-west of Emerald Lake (Jezioro Szmaragdowe), a former chalk pit. Next to the reserve runs the yellow-marked Trail to the Swedish Boulder, 8.0 km long, from Podjuchy (Granitowa and Gwiaździsta streets) through the reserve to the Swedish Boulder.
