Teatr im. J. Osterwy w Gorzowie Wlkp. brings “Tango” by Sławomir Mrożek. At first glance a grotesque and funny drama, it addresses serious issues: the conflict between generations and the relationship between father and son. With humor and tenderness, it shows the winding road to unlimited freedom and the longing for a world of old rules. Beneath the comic surface, however, lies a story about how violence becomes established.
The characters live in a reality where old values have been rejected but new ones have not yet emerged. When all norms collapse and freedom loses its boundaries, a longing for order appears, but attempts to restore it lead to greater chaos, even crime. When authority disappears, someone takes its place, usually forcing obedience through insolence and force. According to the announcement, this mechanism of escaping responsibility and seizing power is disturbingly relevant today as well.
