A Gothic brick tower gate from the 15th century in the former defensive walls of Chojna, with a viewing terrace.
The Barnkowo Gate is a brick tower gate in Chojna, one of the two surviving gates of the old town walls. It stands on Bolesława Chrobrego Street and dates from the 15th century. It is listed in the heritage register.
Chojna was surrounded by defensive walls in the 13th and 14th centuries. They had three gates: the Świecka, the Barnkowska and the Mostowa, the last of which was demolished in the 19th century. The name of the Barnkowo Gate comes from the village of Barnkowo, now a district of the town. After 1767 the Świecka and Barnkowska gates were partly demolished and the material was used to build barracks. After the war part of the walls, together with both gates, was reconstructed. Next to it stands the other surviving gate, the Świecka Gate.
Zabytek.pl gives the style of the gate as Gothic and the material as brick. The tower rises on a square base and ends in a pointed spire. At the top there is an open viewing terrace. The gate was entered in the heritage register in 1957.
