Church of Divine Mercy in Sicko

Sicko
About Church of Divine Mercy in Sicko

Neo-Gothic branch church in Sicko from the 19th century, built of granite ashlar, rebuilt in 1983-1986.

The Church of Divine Mercy in Sicko is a village branch church in Recz municipality, in Choszczno County. It was built in the 19th century, and the heritage register lists it with a date at the end of that century and gives the style as neo-Gothic.

The building

The walls were built of granite ashlar, and the corners are topped with pinnacles. The window surrounds are of brick, and the windows and the entrance portal have pointed arches. The church is a single-room hall on a rectangular plan, with a chancel closed on three sides and a roof covered with ceramic tiles. It probably stands on the site of an older church.

Destruction and rebuilding

The church suffered badly during the Second World War. It was rebuilt in 1983-1986, and on 11 June 1989 it was consecrated by Bishop Stanisław Stefanek. It is not far from here to the parish in Wapnica, of which it is a branch, and in the area there are also the Church of St Joseph in Sokoliniec and the Church of St John Cantius in Wapnica.
