About Jewish Cemetery in Szczecinek

Jewish cemetery of the 18th century in Szczecinek, listed in the heritage register, with a former pre-burial house.

The Jewish cemetery in Szczecinek was founded at the beginning of the 18th century and covers about 0.2 hectares. It is listed in the heritage register. During the period of the Third Reich it was devastated. Of the former structures, the pre-burial house has survived, later rebuilt as an Evangelical-Augsburg chapel.

State of preservation

Of the gravestones, one matzevah from 1756 has survived, kept in the Regional Museum in Szczecinek. The heritage register dates the cemetery to the first half of the 18th century, and the entry bears the number A-1405 of 2015. It belongs to the municipality of the town of Szczecinek. The small area, the pre-burial house and the single matzevah are today the only material evidence of the former Jewish community that the sources point to.
