Głowacz nature reserve

Ińsko
About Głowacz nature reserve

A forest reserve on a terminal moraine with a raised bog, erratic boulders and the Głowacz hill (180 m above sea level), with a short trail to the summit.

The Głowacz nature reserve is a forest reserve in Ińsko municipality, in Stargard County, within the boundaries of the Ińsko Landscape Park and two Natura 2000 sites. It was established in 1985 and covers 78.12 ha. Within it lies the Głowacz hill, 180 m above sea level, the highest in the Ińsko Lakeland.

Terminal moraine, raised bog and forests

The reserve lies in a terminal moraine zone with varied relief: the hills have height differences of up to 30 m and the slopes an incline of 10%. There are closed depressions without outflow and numerous erratic boulders, the largest of which has a circumference of 6.3 m. About 19 ha are taken up by wetlands and small ponds, the largest being a raised bog of about 11 ha, with round-leaved sundew and the European larch. Almost two thirds of the forests are birch and aspen that seeded themselves on former fields, protected as an example of spontaneous succession. The forests are a refuge of the lesser spotted eagle and the crane.
