a brick Neo-Gothic post office building of 1905 with two monumental portals and rails in the courtyard
The building of Post Office No. 1 stands on Niepodległości Avenue, at the corner of Bogurodzicy Street, right next to the Palace of the Pomeranian Landschaft. It is a monumental building of brick Neo-Gothic, typical of the architecture of Szczecin and West Pomerania. It is visited mainly from the outside, because a post office still operates here.
The building was built in 1905 to a design by Otto Hintze for the Royal Prussian Post. The heritage register confirms the brick material and the Neo-Gothic style. The building has two monumental portals, through which luggage trams could drive into the courtyard. The surviving tram rails bear witness to this. Four pedunculate oaks grow in front of the building.
Today the building belongs to Poczta Polska, and houses district and regional branches and Post Office No. 1. Visiting the interiors outside the service of post office customers is not described. From the pavement you can see the portals and the brick elevations. The surroundings are completed by the Palace of the Pomeranian Landschaft and the Port Gate, and not far away stands St James the Apostle's Cathedral Basilica.
