Jewish Cemetery in Lipiany

Lipiany
About Jewish Cemetery in Lipiany

A wooded Jewish cemetery near Lipiany with individual matzevot bearing Hebrew inscriptions.

The Jewish cemetery in Lipiany lies outside the town, on land of the Zieleniec Forest District, on the left side of the road from Lipiany to Barlinek. Individual matzevot (Jewish gravestones) with Hebrew inscriptions can still be found there.

History and condition

The cemetery was devastated in 1935, according to The Encyclopedia of Jewish Life, cited in the Wikipedia entry. The site is wooded and fenced with a simple wooden fence. The surviving matzevot are few, so the place calls for particular care.
