Jewish Cemetery in Suchań

Suchań
About Jewish Cemetery in Suchań

A former Jewish cemetery in Suchań with the remains of matzevot, entered in the heritage register in 2019.

The Jewish cemetery in Suchań was established at the beginning of the 19th century on a wooded rise in the eastern part of the town, on what is now Leśna Street. The remains of matzevot (Jewish gravestones) have survived there, many of them in a state of decay.

Location and protection

Formerly a path led to the cemetery from the main road, on which the then Arnswalder Landstraße stood. Zabytek.pl dates the cemetery to the end of the 18th century, which differs from the date given in the Wikipedia entry (the beginning of the 19th century). The necropolis is entered in the heritage register under number A-1862, by a decision of 9 December 2019.

Practical information

  • Place: Suchań, the rise by Leśna Street.
  • This is a cemetery, not a recreation area: the gravestones are fragile and must not be touched or moved.
  • Nearby stands the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
