Forest reserve in the Beech Forest with beech woodland, the Utrata stream and walking trails near Kołowo.
The Kołowskie Parowy forest reserve, named after Józef Lewandowski, covers 24.34 ha. It lies in the central part of the Szczecin Landscape Park “Puszcza Bukowa”, 1.5 km east of Kołowo. It was established on 30 May 1956. In 1982 it received its present name in honour of the forester Józef Lewandowski.
It is a deciduous forest on the slopes of moraine hills. Beech forest in various forms is protected here, Pomeranian beech woodland, with a rich ground layer. The Utrata stream flows through the reserve, suddenly disappearing and just as suddenly reappearing on the surface. The bottom of the ravine is occupied by spring beech woodland. Protected helleborines, guelder rose and sweet woodruff grow here, and rare plants include, among others, one-flowered wintergreen and Carex strigosa.
Marked walking trails run by the reserve. The Stanisław Pawelski Trail is 12.7 km long: from the bus loop in Szczecin Kijewo through Lisi Potok and the Kołowo forester's lodge to Glinna, it passes the reserve and the dendrological garden in Glinniec. The Stanisław Groński Trail is 39.6 km long and links several reserves of the Beech Forest, including the Źródliskowa Buczyna.
In the south-eastern corner of the reserve, at the crossing of the roads from Szczecin Śmierdnica and from Kołowo, stands an erratic boulder with a plaque in honour of Józef Lewandowski, a forester and long-time director of the Szczecin Regional Directorate of State Forests.
