Neo-Gothic palace from the second half of the 19th century with a landscape park and natural monuments, in a hamlet near Barwice.
A Neo-Gothic palace from the second half of the 19th century stands in Białowąs, a hamlet in Barwice municipality in Szczecinek County. Together with the landscape park it forms a complex entered in the heritage register in 1979 (number 1064), and the register dates it to the mid-19th century.
The palace was built on a rectangular plan with two wings at the sides. Outside can be seen a terrace, pointed-arch windows and lesenes. The interior is eclectic, with armorial stained glass of the von Rittberg family and a hunting hall, and the usable area is 2,270 m2. The former knightly estate bore the German name Balfanz, and the last owner was Friedrich Wilhelm Graf von Rittberg. The layout of the palace and park complex is the work of R. Haase, who owned the estate when the palace was built.
The landscape park was laid out in the first half of the 19th century. It contains black walnut, false cypresses and Siebold's hemlock, and the natural monuments are a copper beech, a pedunculate oak with a girth of 805 cm and an age of about 500 years, and a Douglas fir.
Two hundred metres away stands the half-timbered Church of Blessed Teresa Ledóchowska from 1689, founded by Kazimierz von Glasenapp. In the crypt beneath it stand carved Baroque coffins from 1647-1710 with the bodies of members of the Glasenapp family.
