Stary Rynek 1, Kamień Pomorski
About Town Hall in Kamień Pomorski

A Gothic arcaded town hall from the 13th century, rebuilt after 1945, today the seat of the town council offices.

The Town Hall in Kamień Pomorski is a Gothic arcaded town hall in the centre of the Old Market Square. Today it houses the offices of the town council.

History

According to the Wikipedia entry, it was built in the 13th century. In the mid-16th century it was slightly rebuilt and given Renaissance features. In 1945 the building was destroyed, and after the war it was rebuilt, preserving the body, the façade decoration and the interiors from the Gothic period.

Architecture

It is an arcaded town hall typical of West Pomerania, in the shape of an elongated townhouse. On the east it has a three-arch arcade, and the elevations are divided by pointed-arch arcades and polygonal pilaster strips. The west gable is decorated with tracery, similar to the Renaissance decoration of the gable of the Bishop's Palace. In the cellars and on the ground floor Gothic cross-rib and barrel vaults have survived.

Nearby

By the market square stands the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, a few dozen metres from the town hall, and at a distance of 300 metres the Museum of the History of the Kamień Land.
