About Morast Redoubt (Reduta Bagienna)

A pentagonal redoubt of the Kołobrzeg fortress from 1770-1774 at the mouth of the Parsęta, today among a yacht marina.

Morast Redoubt (Reduta Bagienna), also known as Reduta Morast, is a pentagonal fort of the Kołobrzeg fortress on the northern tip of Salt Island (Wyspa Solna), at the mouth of the Parsęta. Today it stands among a yacht marina.

An 18th-century fort

The redoubt was built in 1770-1774. Together with Ujście Fort it guarded the entrance to the port and the mouth of the Parsęta. In 1832-1836 the site was modernised, and in the 19th century it was named Schill Redoubt, in honour of the Prussian officer Ferdinand von Schill, one of the defenders of the town in 1807. The structure has the shape of a pentagon: an earth rampart, a brick wall and four buildings.

1945 and the present day

In 1945 the redoubt was defended by German sailors, and it was one of the longest-defended bastions in the battle for Kołobrzeg. After the war the moat on the town side was filled in, for many years the site belonged to a sailing club, and today the buildings have been adapted as a restaurant and a small amphitheatre.
