Brick granary of 1685 on the Młynówka in Stargard, rebuilt after 1945, today with a restaurant.
The granary at Spichrzowa 1 in Stargard was built in 1685 of brick on the Młynówka. According to the Wikipedia entry it is the oldest historic building of this type among the four existing in West Pomerania.
The granary was designed on a rectangular plan measuring 15 by 28 metres as a single-storey building. Today it has three floors and a gabled roof. Grain from the Stargard and Pyrzyce lands floated from here down the Ina River towards Inoujście. A hoisting device in the east gable served for unloading, and openings in the side façades and in the gable on the river side for pouring grain down. The building has no decoration, because it was a farm building.
In the 18th century it housed a salt factory, which mediated in trade with Greater Poland. In the 19th century grain was stored here again. In 1945, during the bombing, the granary burned down. It was rebuilt from 1975 to 1980, and the interiors were adapted for a restaurant.
The granary lies by the old town, not far from the town hall. The Arsenal, built in a similar period, is a building in its own right.
