About Contemporary Theatre

A theatre in the building of the National Museum on the Chrobry Embankment in Szczecin, with the Main Stage, the New Situations Stage and the Small Theatre on Bogusława Promenade.

The Contemporary Theatre (Teatr Współczesny) in Szczecin is a cultural institution that runs and develops the performing arts. Its seat is in the building of the National Museum on the Chrobry Embankment.

The theatre's stages

The theatre has two locations. On the Chrobry Embankment there are the Main Stage and the New Situations Stage, and the second location, the so-called Small Theatre, is on Bogusława Promenade. The repertoire, performance dates and ticket sales are given on the theatre's website, as they change each season.

A short history

In 1950 part of the National Museum building on the Chrobry Embankment was temporarily adapted for stage art. The resulting venue was named the Contemporary Theatre, and it became part of the Drama Theatres in Szczecin. In 1975 it was decided to create two separate theatres in the city. The first play of the new company was the world premiere of “Jubileusz” by Edward Redliński.
