An interwar erratic boulder with a plaque marking Stargard's position on the 15th degree of east longitude.
The 15th Meridian Monument in Stargard is an erratic boulder bearing a depiction of a grid of meridians and parallels on its top. It stands on Szczecińska Street, not far from the 15th Meridian roundabout.
The plaque on the monument states that Stargard lies exactly 15 degrees east of the prime meridian running through Greenwich, which is the basis of Central European Time. The monument was set up in the interwar period and restored in 1996.
Although the monument is called the 15th Meridian, it actually stands about 200 metres west of the meridian. This results from the inaccuracy of the surveying equipment at the time it was erected.
The area around it is landscaped, and the monument is encircled by a wreath of six chestnut trees. The monument and its surroundings are under conservation protection.
