A Gothic tower from the middle of the 15th century, 31 m high, also known as the Ice Tower, part of Stargard's defensive walls entered on the list of Historic Monuments.
The Weavers' Tower, also called the Ice Tower, was built in the middle of the 15th century in the fortifications of Stargard. It is 31 m high. Its shape resembles the Red Sea Tower, but it is slightly lower. The cylindrical part rests on a square base, and the top is crowned with crenellation, above which rises a brick cone. Together with the Collegiate Church of St Mary and the remaining walls the tower has been a Historic Monument (pomnik historii) since 17 September 2010.
The elevation is decorated with glazed brick, laid in a chessboard pattern in the square part and in rhombuses in the cylindrical part. At ground level there is a prison dungeon. The interior is divided into eight levels, adapted for observation and defence.
The name Weavers' comes from the fact that, in case of danger, the stretch of wall between the Pyrzyce Gate and the tower was to be defended by the weavers' guild. From the 18th century ice was stored in the rooms of the former dungeon, hence the second name, the Ice Tower.
At the end of the 19th century, when a considerable part of the walls was being pulled down, the tower found itself in the middle of what was then Königstrasse (today Krzywoustego Street) and was to be demolished. In the end the view of those who wanted to preserve the most valuable elements of the fortifications prevailed. In 1992-1993 a monument conservation workshop from Szczecin carried out a renovation: damaged fragments of the terraces were bricked up, crumbling bricks were replaced, joints were filled and missing entrance closures were made. In 2006 the tower joined the European Route of Brick Gothic.
Right next to it stands the Pyrzyce Gate.
Not far away rises the Church of the Holy Spirit.
About 300 m further on is the Collegiate Church of St Mary, Queen of the World.
