An eclectic villa from 1897-1898 with a sundial and a cartouche with a sailing ship, a music school since 1951.
The Georg Grawitz Villa stands at aleja Wojska Polskiego 115 in Szczecin's Łękno district. It was built in 1897-1898 to a design by W. O. Zimmermann for the city councillor Georg Grawitz. Since 1951 it has housed the Tadeusz Szeligowski State Primary Music School. It is entered in the heritage register.
The eclectic brick building combines elements of Gothic and Renaissance. It has an irregular plan, an asymmetrical facade, decorative gables and an elaborate roof structure. On the front wall can be seen a sundial and a three-sided projection with a cartouche showing a sailing ship held up by two mermaids. In the side elevation there are two projections with a Renaissance loggia with a balustrade in the Late Gothic style. The entrance leads through a side vestibule to the main hall, around which the remaining rooms are arranged.
Inside, the original panelling, doors, staircase joinery, stoves, fireplaces and stucco ceiling decorations have survived. Adjoining the building is a garden with yews, plane trees, chestnuts and beeches. In 1908 the villa was bought by August Diestel, and the last owner before 1945 was the Pomeranian Association of Cattle Breeders. In 2014-2015 a renovation was carried out with restoration of the historic elements, for which the villa received a distinction in the “Zabytek Zadbany” (Well-Kept Monument) competition.
Not far away lies Kasprowicz Park, and a little further the Mieczysław Karłowicz Philharmonic.
