Jewish cemetery in Boleszkowice

Boleszkowice
About Jewish cemetery in Boleszkowice

A Jewish cemetery in the forest near Boleszkowice, covering 27 by 28 metres, with matzevot mostly in fragments, entered in the heritage register in 2018.

The Jewish cemetery in Boleszkowice lies a few hundred metres south-west of the village, by the road to Namyślin, in the forest on the right-hand side, about 50 metres from the road. It covers an area of 27 by 28 metres, fenced by a ruined stone wall.

What has survived on the site

The cemetery holds matzevot and fragments of a wall-side gravestone. The oldest legible burial date on a surviving gravestone is 1853, and most of the matzevot survive in fragments because of vandalism. The heritage register dates the cemetery to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, which refers to its foundation, not to the surviving gravestones.

Protection

In 1997 the cemetery was tidied and marked. In 2018 it was entered in the list of historic monuments. The number of people buried there and the history of the Jewish community in Boleszkowice are not documented here.
