An eclectic villa from 1899 in Szczecin's Pogodno, designed by Heinrich Hölling for Martin Quistorp, entered in the heritage register.
The Martin Quistorp Villa stands at Wojska Polskiego Avenue 160 in the Pogodno district of Szczecin, on the corner with Solskiego Street. It was built in 1899 as a single-family house for Martin Quistorp, and since 2006 it has been entered in the heritage register. It is a building to be viewed from the outside: it houses an office, so it is not open for visiting.
The villa was designed by the Szczecin architect Heinrich Hölling, and the investor was Martin Quistorp, son of Johannes Quistorp. The house was built on the then Falkenwalder Strasse in the Neu Westend district, today Wojska Polskiego Avenue. In the 1930s the street numbering was changed and since then the building has borne the number 160.
The Quistorp family owned it until 1912, after which the house changed hands. During the Second World War it belonged to the Tim family. After the war the building stood abandoned until 1954.
The heritage register describes the villa as brick, in the eclectic style. It stands on a rectangular plan measuring about 21 by 14 metres, has two storeys, cellars and a shallow avant-corps in the front elevation. The plinth is clad in terrazzo, and the plaster that is visible on the walls today was applied later, in the 1960s. The roof is covered with plain tiles, replaced during renovation in 2001-2004. In front of the house grow lime trees: eleven on the Wojska Polskiego Avenue side and six on the Solskiego Street side.
From 1954 the Provincial Blood Donation Station operated in the villa, and from 1975 the Municipal Sanitary and Epidemiological Station, then its provincial equivalent. In 2003 the building was handed to the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station. According to the Wikipedia entry, it now houses the Border Sanitary and Epidemiological Station.
Less than half a kilometre away is the Rose Garden (Różanka), and about a kilometre from the villa Kasprowicz Park. Nearby, at Solskiego 3, stands the other historic villa of Pogodno, an Art Nouveau one from 1902.
