About Monument to Carl Ludwig Gené in the Beech Forest

Granite stele from 1894 on Piekielnik hill in the Beech Forest, commemorating the head forester Carl Ludwig Gené.

A granite stele stands on the summit of Piekielnik hill in the Beech Forest, in Stare Czarnowo municipality. It commemorates Carl Ludwig Gené, head forester from Śmierdnica, and is over a hundred years old.

Whom it honours and why it was put up

The monument was funded in 1894 by the Society of Friends of the Beech Forest (Buchheide Verein). Gené lived from 1820 to 1893, and the German inscription on the front of the stele calls him a royal forester and says the monument was erected in his memory.

What it looks like

The granite stele stands on a stone mound. The inscription cut into the front shows who is commemorated and who funded it. There are no other elements, it is a simple forest monument.
