A private museum with a reconstruction of an amber forest and mine and an inclusions room, in the seaside village of Jarosławiec.
The Amber Museum in Jarosławiec is a private museum on Nadmorska Street, opened in 2014. It shows how Baltic amber was formed, what inclusions are and what deposits look like in Poland and around the world. The museum's website promises a story of amber told with the help of scenery and modern effects.
The museum has three permanent exhibitions. The first is a reconstruction of an amber forest and the story of how Baltic amber was formed. The second is a reconstruction of an underground amber mine. The third, the inclusions room, shows organisms trapped in resin. The museum's website also shows the exhibition “Amber in Art”, and according to the Wikipedia entry temporary exhibitions are organised on craft, amber processing and amber gatherers.
The collection includes the second largest piece of amber in Poland, weighing 2906 grams, and other pieces exceeding a kilogram. There are also rare, well preserved inclusions, among them a grasshopper, a pine cone and an oak inflorescence, a piece of blue Baltic amber, and the complete documentation of the deposit at Możdżanowo. The museum also runs an online knowledge base on amber.
