A Neoclassical palace on White Eagle Square in Szczecin, a former seat of banks, in the hands of the Academy of Art since 2021.
The Ionic Palace stands at plac Orła Białego 3 in Szczecin and has a Neoclassical façade. It owes its name to the pilasters in the Ionic order, not to a family or an owner.
In the 18th century a one-storey townhouse belonging to the chief forester Bock stood on this site. At the beginning of the 19th century a storey was added to it and the façade was given Neoclassical forms.
In the 19th century the Royal Bank had its seat in the palace, then the Imperial Bank, and after the First World War Deutsche Bank. In 1924 the building was extended by adding a glazed hall on the courtyard side, to a design by the Szczecin architect Friedrich Liebergesell. After the war the palace continued to serve banks: branches of PKO BP and PBKS were housed here, and from the turn of 1999 and 2000 a branch of Pekao SA. In December 2021 the building was handed over to the Academy of Art.
White Eagle Square lies in the town centre. Right next to it stands the Palace Under the Globe, and about 200 metres further on the Palace of the Pomeranian Landschaft.
