Palace in Kania

About Palace in Kania

A manor house in the style of mountain vernacular architecture from the early 20th century, in a park of 36 ha.

Kania Palace, also called a manor house, is a two-storey building entered in the heritage register in 1984, the former seat of the von Wedel family in Chociwel municipality.

The building and park

The heritage register dates it to the last quarter of the 19th century, and the Encyclopedia of West Pomerania to the early 20th century. The architecture refers to the vernacular building of the mountain regions of Germany: the roof is a gable roof, there are triangular dormers and wooden decorations with plant motifs. After 1945 the building was extended. Nearby are farm buildings, a distillery and a manor park laid out in 1871 and 1888, covering 36 ha, with tree stands that include oaks.

Practical information

  • The building houses a care home for older people, so the palace is viewed from outside.
  • Kania lies in Stargard County; in Chociwel, 7.6 km away, stands the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows.
