The ruin of a palace from 1874 in Juchowo, a former residence of the von Kleist and Dennig families, with a park by the lake.
The palace in Juchowo is the ruin of an eclectic residence from 1874, built on the foundations of an 18th-century manor house. The palace was entered in the heritage register in 2024 (no. A/2081), and the palace park as early as 1979.
The village was founded in 1570 by Asmus and Alexander von Kleist. The estate remained in the hands of this family until the 1870s. The extension in 1864-1874, in the time of Ida Seydwitz von Kleist, produced a three-wing residence on a U-shaped plan. From 1874 to 1945 the estate was owned by the Dennig family of Pforzheim, and in 1930 the palace was rebuilt after a fire. According to the Wikipedia entry, the palace library was the second largest in the region, after the book collection of the grammar school in Szczecinek.
After the war a prison operated in the palace, then a school and a kindergarten. In the 1980s the abandoned building began to deteriorate. In 1990 it was bought by a private person. The palace is today a ruin, so the interiors may not be visited; it can be viewed from the outside.
The brick building on a stone foundation has an area of 1000 m² and numerous details, including soaring turrets. It is surrounded by an 11-hectare landscape park, which according to the Wikipedia entry was designed by Prince Hermann von Pückler-Muskau. It makes use of the steep bank of Lake Juchowo, marshy meadows and a beech and oak forest. Next to it lies the manor park in Juchowo.
