Palace rebuilt in 2014 on the foundations of the Wedel manor house and the Güntersberg castle in Kalisz Pomorski, with a park and a fountain.
The palace in Kalisz Pomorski, also called the Wedel or Güntersberg Palace, stands on Wolności Street and has more than six hundred years of rebuilding behind it. The present building comes from a reconstruction completed in 2014.
It was originally a manor house in the form of a knightly residential tower, built by the von Wedel family in the first half of the 14th century. The Güntersberg family, who ruled the town in 1378-1732, turned it into a fortified castle. It burnt down in 1409, and before 1450 it was rebuilt and enlarged. After fires at the end of the 16th century a Renaissance palace arose on the site, visible in Merian's engraving of 1652. Further rebuilding in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries gave it the character of a residence.
The oldest surviving parts are the Gothic cellars and the outer walls. After postwar destruction the building was rebuilt several times, and in 2014 it was handed over restored. The palace is surrounded by a renewed park with old trees and a fountain. According to the entry on the town, it houses a library and reception and exhibition rooms.
